giving props to Solange Knowles

I have a thing for this girl, it has to be hard to have a superstar sister and have to go through life with the expected comparisons but to me she possesses a strong, individual personality.  I really admired her single 'I've Decided' from her sophomore album ' Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams'.  It had a classy, Motown-esque 6os-70s vibe to it and the video was superstylized and retro inspired. Plus she has a young son, chopped off all her hair to go natural and has endless standout style. I'm excited to see her evolution continue both musically and fashionwise. Here are images from a recent Refinery29.com interview and for full story click here

Wes Gordon is a Class Act

Once again I was able to collaborate with Wes Gordon and helped organize an elegant presentation for his Fall 2011 collection. It was held at the opulent Foutainebleu banquet room at the St Regis hotel and it's gilded decor complemented the sophisticated collection seamlessly. The models stood on pedestals while Niaa a pianist performed Rolling Stones covers. Here are a few images and for entire show click here

diana ross is eternal

I recently puchased a copy of Diana Ross' book 'Going Back' at the Schomburg Center in Harlem. I was totally floored and entranced by the fantastic photos of Diana Ross' style evolution through the last four decades. I know she is a fashion icon for many of us and we regard her as true queen of sophistication. I hold 'Mahogany' as part of my top five films of all time. Her street sassiness, her  intriguing costume designs and finding herself in old world Europe as we all do is so inspiring to watch in this movie. I've shared a few of my favorite looks.

Fashion on Film: 'On A Clear Day You Can See Forever'

I recently saw  'On a Clear Day You Can See Forever' directed by one of my all time favorite directors Vincente Minelli. ( Liza's dad for those of you who don't know) Minelli was known  for his 'beautiful eye' and showcasing splendor in every frame. This was Barbra Streisand's third film and was a dream to watch her in contemporary designs by Arnold Scaasi and period costumes created by Cecil Beaton. Streisand plays  a quirky chain smoker who seeks the help of a pychiatrist ( Yves Montand) to hypnotize and help her kick the habit, instead she reveals she's a 19th century courtesan in the English court who falls for a handsome playboy with no means. The vibrant fashions, opulent costumes and shots of 1970 New York City will blow you away.

Can't get enough of my.....

Taking a cue from one of People's magazine's fashion segments I decided to play close attention and see which celeb likes to sport their fave accessory most often. I came up with fashion muse/model Chanel Iman who likes to wear her red patent leather Chanel 2.55  bag quite frequently. This fave accessory also kind of coincides with the name of her mother's shop, the The Red Bag Boutique in Culver City which offers a selection of vintage and new designer items.

vintage cher throwback 1980

Being a bonafide Cher fan all my life  I made the effort to see 'Burlesque'. Aside from the weak plot and predictable storyline there were glittery costumes and upbeat musical numbers, overall it was entertaining but not earth shattering. My love for Cher  though remains unchanged, so I wanted to head back to a time when Cher totally ruled and was unapologetically sexy.  I found 'Bad Love', an early 80s disco track during  her Casablanca Records days compiled by cherstyler.

ALEX PRAGER offers vivid colors and luscious women

I recently came across Alex Prager's photography while at MOMA a few weeks ago. Her work is a fusion of Hitchcock heroines combined with Mad Men's sleek styling. Prager's short film 'Despair' starred a teary eyed Bryce Dallas Howard who was mourning romantic heartbreak reminiscent of a  Lichtenstein girl. I adore Prager's color palette and highy stylized aesthetic, so visually stimulating. Click here for more info.
